Helping Hands Project

Helping Hands Project provides a social worker and a vehicle in Strumjani Municipality, which is located in a poor south-west rural region of Bulgaria. Star of Hope started this project in 2006 after several years of partnership and cooperation with the local Social Services and the Municipal Administration.
Our social worker works in partnership with the local municipality and the local branch of the Bulgarian Red Cross to
maximize the quality of life of the underprivileged children and adults in the region through:
- Distribution of humanitarian aid
- Visits to lonely old people and people with disabilities; assisting them to receive the necessary medical care;
- Provision of much needed care and support for vulnerable children and their families
- Consultation and advice for teenagers at risk
- Emotional support
- Children and family counseling
- Moral support

The work of the Star of Hope’s social worker is highly appreciated by the local authorities but even more valuable is the acknowledgment of the people whose lives have been changed and who have received a chance for better future.
